Treeton Partnership Success Stories

The following are examples of some of the recent achievements of the people of Treeton that the Partnership are happy to have played a part in. We hope this page will grow and grow!

Waverley Community Connects

Treeton Partnership and Rother Valley West Area Assembly have together successfully obtained grants totalling nearly £200,000 to finance the Community Connects Project.

The funding has been jointly granted by Objective 1 and the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, over a three year period. Briefly, the project will employ a full-time manager and a part-time administrator to liaise with developers and businesses on the Waverley site in Catcliffe. Their main task will be to secure job and training opportunities for people in Treeton, Catcliffe, Brinsworth, Orgreave, Aston, Swallownest, Aughton and Ulley.

The project will initially be based in the Treeton Youth Enterprise Centre, moving to the Community & Resource Centre once the building is in operation.

Past projects

In addition to the current projects from the Community Action Plan, the Partnership now has a growing number of completed projects and activities under its belt, all of which contribute in their own way to improving quality of life for Treeton's residents. These include:

  • Improvements to Treeton colliery tip site
  • New Well Lane children's playground
  • Landscaping the Baptist Church gardens
  • The Community Chest for 2003-4 & 2004-5
  • Development of 'The Boscage' wildlife site
  • Provision of an extra night for the Junior Youth Club

The Partnership also played an important part in securing the funds which enabled the opening of the Village Association Community & Resource Centre in Autumn 2004.

Achievements

The following achievements were cited by interviewees in the Social Audit carried out in 2003:

  • bringing local groups, statutory agencies and people together for the first time
  • working alongside other groups, helping and supporting them with funding bids and business plans
  • obtaining some funding for the partnership itself and building internal strengths and capacity
  • putting on training courses for local groups and individuals
  • the Pit Tip site development
  • assisting the Village Association
  • funding for play equipment
  • developing a good relationship with the Parish Council
  • new groups are being established (e.g. art group, carer's group, history group and ladies' group) with help from the Partnership
  • supporting strategic decisions (e.g. community buildings)

The partnership's involvement has also been credited in an indirect way with helping other developments, such as environmental plans, improving the appearance of the village, and helping local pressure groups gain confidence.
