The second round of funding under the Orgreave Community Gain grant scheme has now been opened. Grants of up to £2000 are available to groups in the area affected by the opencast mining at Orgreave.
The grants are available to community groups and organisations in the parishes of Orgreave, Aston-cum Aughton, Catcliffe, Brinsworth and Treeton, for social, educational, recreational, sporting or other local community activity.
Examples of activities supported in the first round are: sports facilities, a wildlife project, playground improvements, community training sessions, dance workshops and improvements to facilities in a community building.
In this second round proposals from groups in Orgreave itself are particularly sought, as no applications were made from this area in the first round of grants.
For informal advice on the bidding procedure please contact Steve Ruffle on 0114 2889308 or Janice Curran on 01709 363481.
For an application form please write to Bronwen Peace, Planning and Transportation Service, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council, Bailey House, Rawmarsh Road, Rotherham S60 1TD.
The closing date for all applications is Friday 30th June 2006.
