Treeton Community Groups

The following is a list of community groups and organisations within Treeton, with meetings and contact details where known. If your group is not listed here, or if the information is out of date, please let us know via the contact page.

Art Group

The Art Group meets every Monday evening from 7pm to 9pm, at the Baptist Church.

It is a friendly group of mixed ages and abilities who are brought together by their desire to set aside some time in their lives to enjoy creative and artistic activities, away from the pressures of their normal day to day surroundings.

Members have a wide range of skills and interests, as shown by the recent public exhibition of works at the Reading Rooms in December, and at the Community Gala in August.

Group activities vary from sessions where new forms are introduced, such as lino cutting or encaustic art, through sessions where members pursue their own current projects, to visits to art shows and galleries.

Local History Group

Treeton Local History Group meet on the third Thursday of each month, generally at the Reading Rooms on Front Street.

Most meetings feature a speaker on a topic of interest, with recent events including an insight into the antiques business (including valuations of items brought along by members), a presentation on the Western Highlands of Scotland, a guided tour of St Helen's Church and a history walk around the village.

Summer meetings often take the form of visits to local sites of interest, which in 2005 include the Ice-age cave art at Creswell Crags, a Land Rover tour of the Orgreave opencast workings, and a visit to Brodsworth Hall.

The group has also published several small volumes of local history, the latest of which, "Gleanings and Recollections of Old Treeton" is available from the Partnership Offices on Front Street, at the Post Office, and from other local outlets.

Treeton Baptist Church

The Baptist Church in Treeton was founded in 1884, beginning its life of worship, mission and ministry in a loft over a cowshed before moving into a 'Tin Tabernacle' at the bottom of Mill Lane in 1889. In January 1924 the church moved into the present place of worship situated on the sharp bend on Station Road.

The church meets for Worship every Sunday at 10.45am and during the week for Bible Study and Fellowship on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings in local houses. The first Sunday of each month is our Communion Service and the third Sunday our Family Service including Brownie Parade. Children are welcome at all of our services during which they spend some time in Junior Church enjoying their own activities.

The Church is also used as a base for Treeton Trailblazers After School Club, 53rd Rotherham Brownies, Treeton Ladies Group, Treeton Community Library, Treeton Art Group and a local Sugarcraft Guild. The offices of Treeton Community News are situated in a room to the rear of our main building known as 'The Rainbow Room'.
